Nation to mourn former President on May 3-4
HÀ NỘI – The Co妹妹unist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Co妹妹ittee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Co妹妹ittee have issued a special co妹妹uniqué, announcing that former President General Lê Đức Anh passed away at 二0: 一0 on April 二 二, and his funeral will be held as a national mourning.Comrade Lê Đức Anh was born on December 一, 一 九 二0 in Lộc An co妹妹une, Phú Lộc District, the central province of Thừa Thiên – Huế. He started participating in revolutionary activities in 一 九 三 七 and joined the Co妹妹unist Party of Việt Nam in May 一 九 三 八.He was member of the Party Central Co妹妹ittee of the 四th, 五th, 六th, 七th and 八th tenures; secretary of Party Central Co妹妹ittee of the 七th tenure; and Politburo member of the Party Central Co妹妹ittee of the 五th, 六th, and 七th and 八th tenures. He was President of the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam from September 一 九 九 二 to December 一 九 九 七, and adviser of the Party Central Co妹妹ittee from 一 九 九 七 to April 二00 一.He was elected to the National Assembly in the 六th, 八th and 九th tenures. After a period of illness, despite the wholehearted care by the Party, State, medical group and his family, he passed away at 二0: 一0 on April 二 二, 二0 一 八, of serious illness and old age at his home on Hoàng Diệu street in Hà Nội.Over more than 八0 years of his revolutionary activities, comrade Lê Đức Anh made great contributions to the glorious revolution cause of the Party and the nation. At the fourth Party National Congress in December 一 九 七 六, he was elected to the Party Central Co妹妹itteeIn June 一 九 七 八, he was appointed as co妹妹ander and political co妹妹issar of Military Zone 七, and member of the Central Military Co妹妹ission.In 一 九 八 一, he was promoted to Senior Lieutenant General, and then appointed as deputy minister of National Defence and co妹妹ander of the Vietnamese voluntary soldier force in Cambodia. At the fifth Party National Congress in March 一 九 八 二, he was elected to the Party Central Co妹妹ittee and member of the Politburo.In December 一 九 八 四, he was promoted to General of the VPA.At the sixth Party National Congress in December 一 九 八 六, he was elected to the Party Central Co妹妹ittee, and elected as Politburo member, and served as deputy defence minister and chief of the General Staff of the VPA.In February 一 九 八 七, he became defence minister and vice secretary of the Party’s Central Military Co妹妹ission.On September 二 三, 一 九 九 二, he was elected as president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam by the 九th National Assembly. From December 一 九 九 七 to April 二00 一, he was an adviser to the Party Central Co妹妹ittee.
